My artistic practice is deeply rooted in a connection with the natural world. After graduating from the University of Ottawa’s Fine Arts program, I spent over a decade working in forestry across Canada. This experience cultivated a profound appreciation for the flora and fauna that shape our environment, a connection that continues to inform my creative vision.
Now based back in Ottawa, I am fully dedicated to my artistic exploration, merging photography, digital manipulation, and painting to construct surreal landscapes inspired by real-world environments. My recent focus has turned toward dioramas—miniature, hand-assembled scenes that allow me greater control over the settings that influence my work. Using foraged natural materials, plastic plants, and recycled objects, I create small-scale landscapes that blur the line between reality and fabrication.
My subsequent process unfolds in multiple stages. Photography plays a crucial role, capturing these constructed scenes as the foundation for digital alterations and painted interpretations. My oil paintings further this exploration, often incorporating unconventional colour palettes that stray from traditional representations of nature. This interplay between organic and artificial elements creates an intriguing contrast—real versus fake, natural versus manufactured—encouraging viewers to question their own perceptions of what is nature.
